Giving Back

Supporting important programs that help people in the communities we call home is an essential part of the Mastoran mission. We focus on cancer research, educational scholarships and financial assistance for veterans.

Cancer touches every family to some degree, including ours, which inspired us to do something big to support the doctors, nurses, staff and scientists working at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to advance cancer research and improve patient care.

The result was a fundraising program launched by Mastoran Burger King Restaurants and the Jimmy Fund. It works like this: customers donate $1 and get a scratch card that is guaranteed to win at least one item worth $1 from the Burger King menu. Several other larger prizes are also awarded. All proceeds from the scratch cards are donated to the Jimmy Fund.

Through their relationships and advocacy with other Burger King franchisees, the Mastoran team has spread the fundraising program, now called “A Chance for Kids & Families”, to 130 Burger King restaurants in 10 states.

As of December 2022, the program has raised $15 million for Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund and it continues to grow annually.

Unmet Needs of Veterans

We understand the challenges veterans, service members and military families can face and believe that experiencing financial difficulties should not be one of them. That’s the premise behind the VFW’s Unmet Needs program.

Unmet Needs is there to help America’s military families who have run into unexpected financial difficulties as a result of deployment or other military-related activity or injury. The program provides financial aid grants of up to $1,500 to assist with basic life needs in the form of a grant – not a loan – so no repayment is required. To further ease the burden, we pay the creditor directly.

Burger King Scholars

The Burger King Scholarship, also known as the Burger King Scholars Program, has awarded more than $20 million in scholarships since its inception in 1998. The Burger King Scholarships are awarded to eligible students, student employees of Burger King, and their families throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. High school students and Burger King employees who are considering financial aid for college should apply for the Burger King Scholarship! The Burger King Scholarship is generously awarded to high school seniors every year and is one of many significant college scholarship programs offered by similar companies in the restaurant industry.
